Calculate Your Daily Calorie Needs
Your Basal Energy Expenditure (BEE), also called BMR is an estimate of how many calories(energy) you would need to carry out fundamental metabolic functions, such as breathing, ion transport, etc. This is the energy spent while you are in the fasted state, lying quietly in a room at a comfortable temperature.
Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) is an estimate of how much energy/calories you would need to support your BEE/BMR, digestion, and your daily physical activities.
Nyoot uses the Mifflin St. Jeor's Equation in calculating BMR. The Mifflin St. Jeor equation takes into account the lifestyle changes in the last 100 years; hence, is believed to be more accurate. If you are interested in running your own calculation, the formulae are as follows:
Men: (10 * weight in kg) + (6.25 * height in cm) - (5 * age in years) +5
Women: (10 * weight in kg) + (6.25 * height in cm) -(5 * age in years) -161.
Remember that even the best BMR calculators provide only the result of a predictive equation and should be used as a guide only.
